Thursday 01.02.18 - Member of the Month 1/2: Kate Garner


First member of the Month is Kate! Kate is one of those people that can relate to all types, knows everyone and will always greet you with a friendly hello. No surprise she was one of the top vote getters in the Community Award, she visits various class depending on Uni but you will generally see her at 9.15am or at Weightlifting. Has a strong rivalry with Marc Fisher and it's always fun watching those two go at each other with some friendly banter. When, how and why did you get started with us? I started late 2016. I had been diagnosed with anxiety & depression a few weeks earlier and was feeling pretty crap. My best friend Shannon dragged me out of bed to a 12 o’clock session. It was with Rach and I nearly cried through the whole session I was so anxious (not because of Rach). I signed up for a membership that day. Since then you guys have become my most important time of day, being at the box is my mental health time & my happy place. 😍

What would be your dream workout? Love building up to heavy lifts, something with lots of rest haha. Usually anything I can beat Marc Fischer in. Hahah

What workout would you want to avoid? Easy, something combining running and Wall Balls.

Favourite Crossfit Athlete? Gotta go with Tia, fellow QLD girl & for changing her mindset to push her to the top. I like Josh Bridges too, I have a thing for Dad's and Military Men. Hahaha.

Whats the best thing you own that cost under $100? Mmmmm under $100 is hard. But my new lifters make me feel pretty damn cool & got me some new PBs. 😎

Biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made? Probably my whole awkward early teenage life. Loved some butterfly clips in my hair, the slicked back pony tail & the two strands out down the front hahah. My braces were pretty bloody cool too, always pink & purple colours.

Favourite quote? “Happiness can be found, in even the most darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light” - Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban. (I’m a big HP fan)

Whats Your fav 90s jam? Spice girls for sure. I love a girl band or cheesy 90s pop that we all know the words to.

Last thing you watched on TV? Vikings.

Funniest thing that happened to you recently? Well, I don’t like tan lines so I usually tan at home in my backyard in the nude.... that all stopped when a couple of 7 & 8yr old boys burst into my backyard to play zombie apocalypse and got to see Noah’s Mums bare butt. 😝

If you could have one other CrossFit Claremont members body part, what would it be? Kat’s ability to eat a lot of pizza & still have abs. Kai’s engine. Junko’s work ethic.
