The Close of the Open Close

"We've gotta keep our composure!!" A message from Gold team captain Jess and they head into the final week with a one-point lead.

With a lead heading into the final workout and there only being one scored event, things were all coming up Gold. The third week went to a place many expected and feared with Thrusters and Pull Ups leading into heavier Thrusters and Bar Muscle Ups.

A reminder we have a social event / wind up this Saturday 6pm at the Cott. The final results will be announced then. Hopefully we see you there!

Things Gary heard: _ "I'm drunk.. that should make it hurt less right " Claire D adding another element to the mix for this workout. The former 'Regional Team Reserve (ask her about it)' to her credit still got up to the bar muscle ups! _ "Ahhh I can't see, everything is spinning around" - Jess after potentially going out a little hot in the first 5 rounds.

_ "I've learnt tonight that maybe I should chew my food a bit better. There were some big chunks of my lunch in there". Ed after a visit from Pukie post WOD. - "Oh well, abandoned by my captain I suppose I'll do the workout alone". Poor Marshall was left to do the workout in the noon class solo, after his captain Jess pulled the pin mid warmup to go home. Jeez I would have thought a captain would stay there for 15 minutes to cheer a team member on, but I suppose Gold do things a little differently. Perhaps that hard edge is the key..?

"Nah I think I'll go unbroken on the Thrusters" - Cooper talking tactics for the first 5 rounds of this workout. "Yeah I wish I had broken up those early Thrsuters" - Cooper post-workout. Still a huge effort from the man who went under 12 minutes.

Notable performances: _ Shauny B, had done all he needed to do and decided to take a lie down on the back with 40 seconds remaining. _ Saba spent Friday night getting very close, but after some mindfulness work came back Monday and managed to get through some of her first chest-to-bar pull-ups.

_ Julieta put in some huge efforts and was so close to getting a chest-to-bar pull-up.

_ While judging, Nate refused to switch over Jason's bar in the 1 minute rest period. Team Red throwing sportsmanship out the window in search of victory. _ Alex H decided to sit this workout out, yet came in during a class to do some Thrusters in studio B. The Team Red captain melting in the process and watching his title chances slip through his fingers. _ Andy Magill completed his final workout with us on Monday. He said he has simply had enough! Jokes, him and Helen are moving back home. It was great having you both! We look forward to keeping in contact. _ Tyler slipped with a few seconds remaining to get a bar Muscle Up on Friday night. He came back and got one out. The celebration and excitement was pure. Well done mate! _ Well done to Molly for getting a bar Muscle Up in the workout after recently getting her first one! _ Kayla also got her first (2) Bar Muscle while in Darwin. Unfortunately, her hand slipped off the bar so due to a technicality she didn't get credit with a rep. Emotionally she does!

Week 3 results: Leading into the final week, the scores are as follows. 5th: Blue Sky Bisons - 9 points =3rd: Purple Prodigy/Red Raiders - 6 points

2nd: Green Cowboys - 5 points 1st: Gold Standard - 4 points

We all now know there is only one scored workout, Gold with a 1 point lead firms as a strong favourite, with a second place overall securing an at worst equal 1st finish. For a rookie captain could this be the biggest fairytale story since Cinderella herself back in the France ballroom season of 1667/68. See you on Saturday for the results!
