When, how and why did you get started with us? I started CrossFit in around Mar-17 when I moved from the southwest where I’d lived for the previous 10 and a bit years. I’d always done some form of exercise to keep me active, whether it was rugby, touch footy, boxing or just lifting weights in my garage, and want to get back into something a little more social! I hated the idea of gyms from a philosophical perspective, not just that they are filled with machines that are designed to make their very purpose more difficult or that there are armies of people running up an endless staircase to nowhere, but that the sheer movement of weight from point A to B is done so in the most inefficient way, but for only to stimulate growth of a muscle which has nothing to do with everyday life and which goes against every humanistic instinct and deeply annoys me.On that note, I thought that I’d give CrossFit a go, the movements seemed to be designed in a way to achieve something, learn some form of skill and furthermore there seemed to be a community that was supportive of each other, regardless of where you were on the fitness curve and I found that fit with me. I was living in Subiaco at the time and came to down to CrossFit Claremont, and the rest they say is history What would be your dream workout? It’s easy to think of what you wouldn’t include in a workout for someone who’s not so flexible, has pretty bad cardio but also a dead sexy pain face, so combining those I’d have to say that my dream workout would be something with squats and rowing! What workout would you want to avoid? I’d avoid the 12 days of Christmas WOD. I did that last year and I didn’t realise what I’d gotten myself into, and then 76min later I realised I’d made a big mistake! But for some sick and disgusting reason I’ll probably do it again this year... Favourite Crossfit Athlete?Pat Vellner - gotta support another fellow pasty ranger CrossFitter! What's the best thing you own that cost under $100?I’d say my toothbrush, can’t imagine what life would be like without it. Biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made? Fashion is fairly subjective and I’d like to think that I have never made a fashion faux pas, but I have received comments about my current moustache as well as my cabana boy swimming trunks from my recent trip to Fiji. As a little tantaliser, it’s highly likely you’ll see both at the upcoming Christmas party... Favourite quote? I’ve heard a couple lately that really resonated with me, but this one from Joe Rogan who was talking with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s really stuck. I’ve taken a little excerpt from that conversation that I just thought was gold and wanted to share the context along with the final quote:I was looking at past and present pictures of Arnold Schwarzenegger the other day when two things struck me: one, time is a real motherfucker. The man who possessed one of the most beautiful physiques the world has ever known is now reduced to moving through life in an advanced-stage version of "dad bod". The other thing is that building a perfect body is ultimately a lot like making a beautiful sand castle.I want to live my life by not what I look like, but the way I feel, being active and healthy and maintaining the sand castle, cognisant that it’s ultimately futile to try and resist the dad bod that I have! What's your fav 90s jam? It’s all coming back to me now - Celine Dion Last thing you watched on TV? Ozark - Netflix series Funniest thing that happened to you recently? Someone asked me yesterday, are you growing a mo? (I’m not blessed in the facial hair department, think prepubescent male and I’ve literally needed a 10 day head start on Movember because it’s only just recognisable!) Most used emoji? 😘 If you could have one other CrossFit Claremont members body part, what would it be? A lot of people confuse Isaac Rasmussen and I because we look so similar, but I would like my tan to be a few shades darker I guess...
