Thursday 01.03.18 - Member of the Month 1/2: Liz Bellis

Movement and Mobility Class: The fastest way to increase flexibility - PNF stretching.

Although it feels like she has been around for a lot longer, Liz is a relatively new person for a Member of the Month. Her very friendly and approachable personality makes her very popular amongst everyone and she polled extremely well in the Community Award. She came into CrossFit as a very accomplished endurance athlete having won a Rotto Swim. However with not much strength training behind her but she is a great example how application and hard work can result in massive results! She was this year's award winner for the Community Choice most improved. When, how and why did you get started with us? December 2016. After giving up triathlon to sort out some health problems, a few people hinted that I might enjoy CrossFit. A mate recommended CrossFit Claremont (then Southern) so I trialled on a Friday with the 915 Mum's and was instantly hooked. CrossFit has in more then one way changed my life this is the best community I have a ever been apart of and it's a credit to all the coaches and members for making it feel like home to me and I'm sure so many other people😊. What would be your dream workout? Anything gritty and what most people would consider disgusting, just entering the pain cave and making friends with it that's the sort of thing that excites me, so something 30 minutes or longer lots of odd object work and a bit of running and rowing thrown in. YUM What workout would you want to avoid? I don't really have one to be honest stuff I suck at excites me when it comes up in WODs because its an opportunity to get better and suck a bit less the next time it comes up. I enjoy struggle it presents more as an opportunity to prove or surprise yourself. But I guess in a comp I'd avoid heavy front squats if anything. Favourite CrossFit Athlete? Can I have two? Ah Brett Fikowski.. He's tall and not what people would say conventionally built for CrossFit and has still managed to make it to the peak of the sport. I think that's pretty cool. But secondly he also come across as a massive weirdo which I can relate to. Then also Khan Porter. Firstly his face is real pretty but also he super open about his struggles with anxiety and other mental health stuff which having gone through some stiff myself is again something I can really relate to. Whats the best thing you own that cost under $100? Uhm probably my zoodle machine, it makes food prep so much easier. Biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made? TOO MANY TO LIST Favourite quote? Ahh SO MANY to choose from but since it's tattood on me "Don't be scared of any new endeavours, put your soul into what you love and make history instead" Its a constant reminder to never become complacent and always chase things you want in life even if it might involve leaving your comfort zone and doing things that scare you. What's your fav 90s jam? Only just makes it in but "I want it that way" by the Backstreet Boys. Love me some old school boy band action. Last thing you watched on TV? Don't have a TV does the judges course video on Lingee and Berny's TV count? Funniest thing that happened to you recently? Unsure if it's funny or traumatic but at brooks 40th he asked me to check on the girls who were playing on the grass and I ended up getting attacked with body paint by a bunch of 5ish year old girls and very quickly became a human canvas. Most used emoji? 😂😂😂 If you could have one other CrossFit Claremont members body part, what would it be? Again 2??Nass's mind, his ability to simplify the world and any problems in it is like no one I've met. It one of the reasons I've got mad respect for him and have learned so much from the way he approaches life. And then if we're talking actual body parts probably Nadine's smile it radiates happiness and energy and litterally lights up a room.
