Thursday 30.11.17 - Coaches Profile: Kat Birch


So you can get that deeper sense of emotion and intimacy, for December the coaches will be doing the member of the month questionnaire. I would also like to welcome the newest Coach to the team - Kat Birch. You most likely have trained with or seen Kat in classes the past couple of years. Kat has been doing CrossFit for what must be a good 6-7 years now. I remember her Dad brining her down to start CrossFit and I wasn't convinced she would last but she's still going! She also has a lot of experience Coaching CrossFit and other fitness styles. It's great to have someone with her character and experience on board.

An accomplished athlete too, she has gone to Regionals in a team. She will also be competing this Sunday (along with Junko) in the WWA Open. Come down and check it out if you're not busy! Please make her feel welcome if you see her taking a class :) When, how and why did you get started with us? I think it was around 2014 when I moved from South to North of the river. I wanted to train somewhere closer to home so made the move to Crossfit Claremont. I love the community, the quality of training and how I am challenged every day. What would be your dream workout? Anything with front squats, overhead squats, box jumps, pull ups, double unders. Actually don't mind rowing these days either. What workout would you want to avoid? Anything with the air bike gets me highly emotional. Favourite Crossfit Athlete: Tia-Clair Toomey…such a weapon and so humble. Whats the best thing you own that cost under $100? Roo grips…my hands are so supple now. Biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made? When I was a little kid I gave my doll (named little Katrina) a haircut. Then I wanted to look like her so I cut all my hair off. It was super short and jagged. Mum was not impressed. Favourite quote? "You are a perishable item…live accordingly."Also, anything from the Rhino scene in Ace Ventura When Nature Calls…"gettin kinda hot in these Rhinos"…"WARMMMMMM." What’s your fav 90s jam? Actually impossible to choose… Metallica - Enter Sandman, Oasis - Wonderwall, The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony are up there. Last thing you watched on TV? Pulp FictionFunniest thing that happened to you recently: I was looking after my friends Dachshund Frank the tank one night and he gets really excited meeting new people. A couple of my friends came over and Frank the tank got so excited he jumped up, rolled in the air, power wee'd all over my legs and landed without spilling a drop on the carpet…It was actually quite impressive. Most used emoji? :) The laughy face or the smily. If you could have one other CrossFit Claremont members body part, what would it be? Does hair count as a body part? Because I'd like Nadine's hair… my my my.
