Welcome to Week 2 of The Open and what a week it's been! There's been tears and triumph, punches and pashing, and Gary's seen it all!
The first official look at the faction leaderboard was released and we've reached the stage of competition where people have begun to turn on each other.

And while captains aren't specifically asking or encouraging people to sabotage other faction members, (let's get that in writing) you don't need to unnecessarily help them either... (And if you're Wacey, you don't even need to help your own team!!)

As we wearily opened our phones in the early hours of Friday morning, the sounds of Prince playing basketball against Charlie Murphy rang out in our minds. (If you haven't seen Dave Chappelle's real Hollywood stories, it's a must-watch).
"Lunges - good"
"Dumbbell Snatch - good"
"Pull Ups - good"
"Ring Muscle Ups..." (hit the red button below)
The workout was 3 rounds for time, increasing in complexity with each round. OH Lunges, Dumbbell Snatches, Pull Ups, Chest to Bars and finally the great separater we have come to know and love in The Open. Muscle Ups. This year, Ring Muscle Ups.

Conversations across faction chats rang out:
"I know I never do the Skill and Strength work on Thursdays, but I just can't understand why I can't do a Muscle Up, especially under extreme fatigue! WHY?!"
But alas, prepared or not come Friday night, the stage was set, the lights were on, and we had another amazing turnout! Cheers to those who hung around until the end, and everyone who came along to support.
As always with these workouts, getting to the point of the higher degree skill was harder than expected. Boxes were kicked, rigs were punched and the Dummy Spit Award got its first few submissions! But pressure makes diamonds! And it was amazing to see so many people get their first Pull Up, Chest to Bar Pull Up or Muscle up!
By the numbers:
0 - Missed submissions for this week!
1 - Emily's worldwide finish on this workout for her adaptive division.
2 - Half eaten meals that got taken away while Jason and Alfie went to the toilet at Varsity
21 - Brett's place in the world for the 50-54 category! Crazy stuff!
33 - Coopers current placing overall in Oceania - insane stuff!
35 - CrossFit Claremont's team placing overall in Oceania!
Things Gary Heard:
"I'll probably try to go unbroken this week too"- Lauren with an inspirational 0 muscle-up attempts.
"I think I'll be able to take a couple of minutes off in my redo" - Lawson after a very impressive 10.46 on Friday Night.
"I just stopped the workout once I knew I wasn't going to beat it" - Lawson on Monday morning. "Haha" - Wacey's response after Nikki informed him that one of the blue members was struggling...

"Is it too late to sign up?" - Liam trying to find a CrossFit Gym in Japan when Ring Muscle Ups were announced
Notable Performances:
Kyle thought would bring the new misso down to see him in action. Unfortunately, "the action" was him failing Muscle Ups and probably earning himself some dummy spit nominations.
Some high school style passionate tongue kissing by the bins post wod
Zane's fist integrity coming off unscathed after punching the rig upright and kicking a box
Lucy getting her first Muscle Up with a few seconds to spare was extremely exciting. She then on Monday got 'encouraged' by her captain and got 3 Muscle Ups!

Laura G kicking a box after missing a Chest to Bar.
*In case you missed it, both of the last 2 moments got captured in the video below.
Halfway through the workout, just before the last set of lunges, Justin C unstrapped his knee brace. I'm not exactly sure why, but it did feel like a butterfly breaking through its cocoon.
Lauren tried to continue the mental assault on the Green team by smashing into a gate and damaging Jason's car.

In the end, this ended up being a positive as Jason was able to educate Lauren on some elements of driving, which were recorded in the below videos:
Week 2 results:
After the continuous backlash around the integrity of the scores, this week we enlisted auditing by a chartered accountant to make sure the scores were, in fact, correct
26.2: The scores came in as:
5th: Purple - 275,910 worldwide placing points
4th: Red - 271,887 worldwide placing points
3rd: Gold - 255,569 worldwide placing points
2nd: Green - 250,868 worldwide placing points
1st: Blue - 233,995 worldwide placing points
Blue getting up off the canvas from 5th to 1st. Inspiration stuff, showing anything is possible.
Overall leaderboard:
5th: Purple - 9 points
4th: Red - 7 points
3rd: Blue - 6 points
2nd: Gold - 5 points
1st: Green - 3 points
With the chance of it being a 2 part workout in this final week, a lot of scenarios are possible, with Blue and Gold especially in the hunt!
Could either faction make history and be the first to knock Green off? See you next Saturday at the Claremont Hotel to find out!!
Don't forget to lock in the evening for our awards presentation and after party.
Date: Saturday 21st of March
